While lockdown is still upon us, and we don’t know when all of this will end, one thing we do know is that the time we spend together after this will be appreciated more than ever. It’s been over a month now since the UK entered official lockdown. Since then, goats have descended into the streets and parrots named Chanel have gone missing, creating a storm across social media. Alongside the chaos, here are some things to keep in mind while you’re busy exhausting the Netflix directory.
My friend and I made our very own Turkish delight last week. While we could have just bought some from ASDA for a couple of pounds and left ourselves without a 3kg surplus of cornflour, that would have been very boring! We had a workout from stirring the mix in the pan for an hour and the final result was rewarding and of course, very fresh and tasty.
In case any of you are interested, here’s the recipe taken from BBC Good Food:

If you’d rather just buy some from ASDA, though, then that’s okay too.
Many of us have thought about the implications of lockdown on the way that we look. Things like our weight, hair, nails, have all come into jeopardy since we’re mostly confined to our homes. Obviously, these are all things that we had routines for in pre-lockdown life. But the important thing to remember is that it doesn’t matter.
Don’t feel guilty about eating more cake, doing less exercise or the fact that your roots have grown out and your hair isn’t its usual style. The fact is that you can still be fabulous regardless of these superficial things; and not being able to carry out the usual maintenance on the way that you look is a temporary change, so try to embrace it and practice mindfulness instead.
While most of us have more time on our hands now, why not take this as an opportunity to boost your career profile? You can do this by updating your CV, completing one of the free courses on The Open University website, or creating a LinkedIn profile. Remember to tidy up any social media pages as well, as this is often where employers will first look to try and find out more about you. Try and stick to a routine with your uni work, too, to make it more manageable as this will hugely aid your future employability!
We want to stay connected with you as much as possible during this time, as we think it’s important to maintain a sense of community while we’re all isolated. Send in your lockdown activities to our Facebook, Instagram or Twitter pages with the hashtag ‘GlynDoesLockdown’ and we’ll share them to our page. So don’t be shy, share your inspirations! We’re here for you at WGSU. Read more about #GlynDoesLockdown here.
