We are kicking off the new Academic Year with good news!
£2000 funding has been secured for the campaign to continue this year, and our partners over at WINGS have donated 2064 products. This support means we can continue giving free period products to students at all our campuses and free reuseable products on an ad-hoc basis. Look out for updates about Welcome Week, Go Green Week and Wellbeing Week for further updates!
During Welcome Week we handed out free TOTM sample kits to students during the Thrifty Business Event. TOTM are a planet friendly period care company and you will find their products alongside the WINGS donations across all our campuses. You can find out more about this fantastic company here:
Now running into its 6th Year we are proud to be able to continue this campaign for 2023/2024 and support our students across all our campuses.
In July 2023 we secured £1500 funding. With this money we have been able to purchase 75 kits from TOTM, 28 reusable sanitary pads, 8 menstrual cups and 662 disposable pads and 450 tampons. This totals 1223 products being made available to our students across all our campuses along with the small amount of stock we already had. This means we can continue to supply period products across all of our campuses including Plas Coch, Regent Street, Northop and St Asaph.
In November 2023 we secured another £2000 funding! This has enabled us to continue the campaign across all campuses for the rest of the academic year. With this money we have been able to introudce TOTM products in B corridor, Bevan Building and the SU Ladies Toilets. In total we have bought 3120 disposable pads, 180 tampons, 100 TOTM sample kits and 40 re-useable towel bundles (160 total) from Earthwise Girls. You can find more information about their products here. This makes another 3560 products available for all students across all of our campuses.
In March 2024 we secured further funding of £260... this enabled us to buy regular and super tampons from TOTM. A total of 1440 tampons have been purchased, you can find out more about the brand and why we have decided to only supply these ones here.
We have secured funding to introduce the campaign in the Launderette at WSV just in time for the new academic year.
Organic TOTM products are now available for students in the Launderette; we have joined forces with TOTM'S Period Dignity Campaign and aim to have TOTM products available on all campuses going forward.
In June 2023, TOTM contacted us and asked if we would like to join their ever-growing Workplace and University Period Dignity Campaign. TOTM pride themselves on sustainable period care and you can find their 2022 Impact Report here.
Now that we have joined the TOTM scheme we can share some great resources with you:

For Wellbeing Week (also in March), we held an Interventions stall during the Wellbeing Fair. More reuseable period products and TOTM sample kits were made available to students and some were left on Help Yourshelf along with Meal Kits and essentials.
Suzanne from WINGS also joined us during the Wellbeing Fair and donated a further 336 pads to the campaign, the support from organisations like WINGS is what makes campaigns like ours sucesful and with their support we can continue supporting students in the future.
SU Staff were also back on the road so our satellite students didn’t miss out with free reusable products and TOTM kits made available for all.

In July, WGSU won the Participation award for our period poverty campaign at the annual NUS UK Awards 2018 in Birmingham. President Angus Hamill-Stewart would like to extend his congratulations to the group of students from BA (Hons) Business who brought the campaign to the attention of Student Council. He said "this campaign began with a group of students who approached us to support and facilitate this campaign. Sanitary products are deemed as luxurious items by Government which is absoleutly absurd! Some students have to chose whether to eat or to purchase sanitary products which is clearly unacceptable. We hope that this will alleviate the burden on Wrexham Glyndwr University students but we also acknowledge that this is a national issue and our next step is to work with our local County Borough Council to support rolling this out in our local community".
Here is a picture of our sabbatical team and staff collecting the award...
*Update* Since the campaign launched 3 weeks ago, the SU have been inundated with staff and students donating! We would like to thank everyone who has donated and will be donating throughout the year!
On 26th February 2018 students had the opportunity to recreate their own period poverty art work having inspiration from the Period work created by a WGU art student! Take a look:
Due to the popularity of the campaign, we have started to roll out the campaign across the campus - here is the newest donation station in the Library!
