Beyond The Books

This new Mental Health campaign is brought to you by your Vice President Freya Groom. The aim of this campaign is to focus on issues that students are facing beyond academic life. We understand student life doesn’t just involve Academic Issues and we want to support you through all aspects of your learning journey.

Through this campaign different workshops and events will be held throughout the year, you can keep an eye out on our upcoming events here.

Last week the first Beyond the Books event took place, Natter and Splatter! The idea was simple: bring students together for some fun, creativity, and connection. And what better way to do that than with free pumpkins, paint, and a little nattering?

The event started with a table full of pumpkins ready to be transformed into colourful masterpieces. The pumpkins sold out within 10 minutes!. It was incredible to see such enthusiasm and excitement around this simple, creative activity. But the real magic was in the conversations that bloomed during the painting. People shared stories, laughed, and connected with other students. The “natter” part of the event felt just as important as the splatter.

While the pumpkins didn’t last long, the spirit of community and creativity carried on throughout the day. I couldn’t have asked for a better start to the Beyond the Books campaign. Thank you to everyone who came out to natter and splatter with us 🎃✨

The next Natter and Splatter event will be on the 17th of October!

As part of beyond the Beyond the Books, we took Natter and Splatter on the road to Northop. Students enjoyed chatting and painting their own plant pots in the Common Room and we look forward to doing this again soon.

At St Asaph Campus, creativity and connection came together beautifully at the recent "Natter and Splatter" event. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as students and staff gathered for an afternoon of painting, conversation, and relaxation.

Participants unleashed their inner artists by painting vibrant and personalised tote bags. The blank canvases quickly transformed into unique masterpieces, showcasing everything from intricate designs and bold patterns to uplifting quotes and playful doodles. It was an excellent opportunity to de-stress, get creative, and express individuality.

But Natter and Splatter is more than just about painting—it is about connecting. As brushes stroked across fabric, conversations flowed freely. New friendships were made, stories were shared, and laughter echoed throughout the space. It was a reminder of the power of creativity to bring people together.
