SU President: You can now add your pronouns to Microsoft Teams!

As part of my manifesto this year, I wanted to our university to be a safe space for all students and staff – both the physical environment and the digital. Over the past few weeks, I realised that a few staff members had a constant “Out of Office” or “Status Message” set up on their Teams accounts to display their pronouns at all times.

This confused me as I was aware that Microsoft had brought in a way to display preferred pronouns on accounts quite a while ago. After doing a bit of research, it turns out that each organisation has to turn this option on for their staff (and students in the case of education providers).

After a quick conversation with our Information Services Department, I am pleased to say all Wrexham University staff and students are now able to display their preferred pronouns if they wish to! This is of course not a compulsory aspect of Teams accounts, but it is there if people would like to use it.
