My name is Daniel Roberts and I am a postgraduate student reading Computer Game Development. I am your new Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Officer or in short EDI Officer for the year. Being a student with the disability of Cerebral Palsy, I know what it is like being unique at university. I therefore want to try to support students from a disadvantaged background.

Being the first person in my family to attend University, I didn’t know what to expect in general let alone the fact of also having a disability. I attended open days both in person and online because of the COVID Pandemic hitting just when I was about to start my undergraduate degree. I didn’t know what to expect because I didn’t have people to look up to with similar backgrounds to myself. By being the EDI officer, I want to be that student for you.

Apart from being the EDI officer, I am a Student Ambassador at the University since I was in the third year of my undergraduate degree, showing that anybody from any background can become a part of university life. I attend University events when I can to be part of the university experience. Being from the city, I know what it's like so I don’t go clubbing much because I am a workaholic and very passionate about game development and helping people.

My aims for the year are as follows:

  • To advise sports and societies on how they can become more inclusive. Everything can be enjoyed by everybody no matter how small a part that may be.
  • To promote unique events within the University. Making sure events can be accessed and enjoyed by all.
  • To be an example of a successful student who had barriers in front of them but with determination and support was able to overcome them.

Thank you very much for reading and please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me via email or follow me on my social media.
